Happy Birthday Hershie!

I guess Gabe did not destroy the pictures from my other camera. They are on a memory card somewhere on his desk. Now I guess I just need to find them.
We had a relaxing dinner and then we went on a walk. I made a new dessert that I did not like. It is called Pumpkin Upside Down Cake. I made it because I do not like pumpkin pie. It tasted like pumpkin pie. Oh well. Maybe I will just make a pecan pie next year. At least Gabe thought it tasted good.
We also watched Year One today. It had its funny moments, but it isn't something that I would rent again.

Our front room needed a punch of color for the holidays, so I decided to cover the brown pillows on our brown chairs. Don't get me wrong, I love both the brown pillows and the brown chairs, but I want to brighten them up a little bit for the holiday season.

These are really easy to make. Cover your pillow with your choice of material. My cover is removable since I am only going to be using the package pillows for about a month out of the year. I used a burgundy, but if you are happy with the color of your pillows, just skip this step and go right to the ribbon.
Next, using ribbon, wrap your pillow up like a package and tie with a bow. I used 3 yards of ribbon for each pillow, but the amount of ribbon needed (as well as material to cover your pillow) will vary depending on the size of the pillow. So, make sure and measure ahead of time.
If you don't want to sew a cover, you could literally wrap your pillow in the material and use the ribbon to hold everything together.

Gabe even made a comment that they look like $50 pillows. The cost was around $6.00 with $4.00 of that being ribbon. If I would have waited, our grocery store had the ribbon for $2.00, but I never thought to shop for ribbon at our grocery store. Oh well. I am pleased with the way that they turned out. My photography skills just don't do the pillows justice. Oh, and yes, that is a pumpkin.
This is our new "Give Thanks Journal". I found this idea at Toadly Crafty. Basically, it is a composition notebook covered in scrapbook paper. I used Mod Podge to adhere the paper to the notebook. Then I cut out some letters and attached them to the scrapbook paper using my Xyron. I used a glue to stick to attach the turkey and I used the Xyron again for the ribbon. Now we have a book to record what we are thankful for year after year on thanksgiving. I also like the idea of asking those celebrating with us to record what they are thankful for too.
I haven't posted an entry for about a week, but not much is going on. I finished reading Swimsuit by James Patterson. I really like James Patterson, but this was my least favorite book that I have read by him. This was not the book for my book club. I did miss the book club meeting this month. One of our neighbors babysits a little boy a few months younger than Alex. Her dad had a stroke, so I had to watch the little guy that she babysits. Fortunately, her dad is back home and is doing much better.
I don't think that I have posted this yet, but Alex has been proficiently walking for a while now (since the beginning of November). Here are a couple of pictures that Gabe snapped while they were playing outside.
We are getting ready for Thanksgiving tomorrow. I need to check the turkey and see if it is still frozen. It has been in the refrigerator since last night. We only bought a 10 pound turkey, so hopefully it will thaw in time.
Happy Birthday Mom!

Hmmm....I have pictures to post, but I can't seem to find them. We bought a new camera that is shock and waterproof (I can drop it from five feet and swim with it underwater down to 10 feet). Let's just say when you have your camera in your pocket, you shouldn't sit down on it. Thus leading to the new camera. The old camera still works, but you can't do things like turn off the flash or look at pictures. Anyway, it has been sent off for repairs. I am hoping that Gabe put the pictures somewhere on my computer, but I suspect he reformatted the card and they are gone forever.
Last Friday Dawn and I went to a scrapbooking store crop from 6:00 p.m. to midnight. I did manage to get a few things done, though I thought I would get even more accomplished.
Today I am heading over to Katie's house to work on some scrapbooking stuff. I am still on March 2009. I am just a little behind. Currently, I am waiting on the painters to come to our house. Yesterday the repair guys came and now the painters need to come and make everything look pretty. Since we have lived in this house almost a year, our yearly inspection was due. Basically, we do a walk-through with the builder's representative and point out any problems that we might have. We have done this every three months up to now. There are no major problems, just little things like nail heads showing.
Hopefully my next post will have some pictures.
Here are some of Alex's one year portraits from the studio that we like.
All of the thank you cards have finally been mailed!
On Monday I finished and mailed my quilt for Margaret's Hope Chest. They will be distributing quilts to the 200+ homeless children in the Grand Rapids (Michigan) Public School system during the Christmas season. The organizers of the event work through a site called Craft Hope. This is the fist project I have participated in, but if I am able to make the craft I will participate in many more.
This is the quilt that I sent for the project. There are flames printed on the black material. The request was for boy quilts, since they were receiving a lot of girl quilts. The back of the quilt is flannel and I even sewed a little pocket. It is a soft and warm quilt. I hope that someone really enjoys it. Due to my time restrictions, I just made a simple nine block quilt.
Happy Veteran's Day! Thank you for your service!
Alex and I picked Brandi and Maddex up at the airport on Tuesday. I didn't have time to get everything done before picking them up. Their flight was an hour early, so I did not get a chance to get a balloon for Maddex. Luckily, I was leaving an hour early to run some errands and checked their flights arrival time before I left. I was really surprised to see that they were going to land in 12 minutes. Luckily I don't live too far from the airport. We relaxed most of the day, but we did walk to the park to play.
Alex hanging out in a basket before we left.
On Wednesday, we went to the mission and to the desert museum. We didn't get to walk around the entire museum/zoo since we showed up around lunch time. Maddex was pretty hungry so we at lunch at the cafe.
Thursday we decided to go for a swim. The water felt great. We also went to the Pecan Factory and bought a pecan pie.
Maddex in the pool.
Friday we did not do a whole lot. Alex wasn't feeling well, so we took him to the doctor (he is okay now). We also missed our appointment for pictures. We were going to have photos taken of Maddex and Alex. Unfortunately, the picture appointment was at 10:30 and the doctor was able to fit Alex in at 10:00. We could have rescheduled, but Alex would not have been up to it.
Saturday was their last day here (they actually left in the afternoon). So, we decided to go to The International Wildlife Museum. Maddex had a great time running around and pointing to all of the animals.
We came back home, had a quick lunch, and them dropped them off at the airport. We have spent most of the day getting things in order.
Since the year is almost over, I decided to take a look back at my New Year's Resolution post to see how I am doing. Hopefully, this will also kick my behind into gear to finish off my list. Okay, here we go.
1. Organize Stamps - um...cricket noise in background...this is on my list for this month
2. Finish 2008 Scrapbook - complete
3. Lose Baby Weight - can we just move on to the next number?
4. Do A 365 Scrapbook - this one isn't going to happen. I lost my motivation when I lost my camera.
5. Make at Least One Christmas Present Per Month - complete
6. Update Alex's Baby Book - I did do this, but now I need to do it again.
7. Unpack/Organize House ( I would LOVE to complete this by the end of February) - complete
8. Landscape Back Yard - complete
Okay, so overall not too bad. I just need to do numbers 1 and 6...we aren't talking about 3.
Happy Birthday Shane!

Today we went to the Tucson Museum of Art. We waited to go until now because the first Sunday of the month is free. Other than going to the grocery store, we really haven't done a lot today.
Brandi and Maddex will be coming to see us on Tuesday. That should be a lot of fun. Maddex is 6 months older than Alex.
