Gabe picked my parents up from the airport last night around 10:40 p.m. Alex and I stayed home. After wading through the maze of boxes, we finally made it to bed sometime after midnight.
This morning we headed out to have lunch at a Mexican restaurant that we really like. Unfortunately, they were closed for Thanksgiving. I guess you can't really blame them for wanting to spend time with their families. We ended up going to Arizona Family Restaurant. It was our first time there and it was pretty good. Gabe and my Dad ordered breakfast and my mom and I ordered lunch.
After eating we headed out to Gabe's office. He gave us a tour of the facilities. Alex and I hung out in the car for part of the tour (safety glasses were required).
We came back home and worked on clearing out some boxes. Now, before you think I forced my parents to unpack boxes, my mom really wanted us to get things organized so we would all have somewhere to sit (and I think she knows the lack of organization really bothers me). Gabe and my Dad managed to install of the ceiling fans. We still have three more to purchase since Home Depot was out of the fan that I wanted for the kitchen area.
We took a break and went to eat Thanksgiving dinner at a buffet. We have a turkey in our refrigerator, but it is currently thawing. We will have it in a few days when Gabe's mom and dad arrive.
We came back and finished the room we were working on downstairs. Then my Dad and I came upstairs and began working on another room that was box city. It isn't any where near completion, but it is looking better. Maybe tomorrow we will be able to finish it. I need to throw some towels in the dryer and maybe start another load of clothes. I am so tired right now I would fall over if I wasn't reclining in a chair with arms. There are a few Kohl's deals that I would like to purchase online, but I don't think that I am going to be able to stay away (Alex may have a different plan).
Alex in his "gobble 'til you wobble" outfit. There is a turkey on the onesie.
I hope everyone had a very happy Thanksgiving.

Wow! It has been a while since I have updated. If you could take a look at our house right now you would tell me to get off of the computer and get back to work unpacking.
We received the keys for our house last Tuesday. There was a little confusion about how the keys were going to make it to us, but it all worked out in the end. We were hoping that the movers would be here 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, but their scheduled arrival time was 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Since our stuff wasn't here yet we moved out of the rental house on Tuesday. We were at our house around 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday. When the movers weren't here by 8:30 a.m. Gabe called to see if they needed directions. Turns out they weren't going to make it until 3:00 p.m.! So, we went back to the rental house to finish packing and cleaning. The movers finally made it...at 4:15 p.m. They stayed and unpacked until 1 or 2 a.m. I am not sure how long they stayed because Alex and I found a couch and went to sleep (the bed wasn't together yet). They came back the next morning to finish up. They were supposed to be here at 8:00 a.m. and be gone by 10:00 a.m. They didn't get here until 9:15 and I am not sure what time they left.
Gabe and I have been slowly unpacking. It took me three days to unpack my closet. I don't really have that much stuff, it is just a lot more difficult when there is a baby that needs attention. So, for the first three days my closet was all I worked on unpacking.
We still have a lot to work on before we are finished. We have people coming out for Thanksgiving and I had hoped to have the house completed. Umm...that isn't going happen. Thanksgiving pictures might have a lot of boxes in them. I wanted to have our tree up for pictures, but that would require me to know where the box is that the tree is actually packed in. It would also require the box marked tree to contain a tree (long story, but the boxes don't contain what is marked on them...the pots and pans box didn't contain a single pot or pan or even a single kitchen related item).
We looked out our kitchen window and saw several cows grazing in the desert. Most of the desert land is open range for cattle. They didn't really seem to mink our staring.
After the house is all together I will work on posting pictures. I need to get back to work...we have guests coming tonight and the guest room isn't together yet.
P.S. Gabe found my camera!
Happy Birthday Mom!

As far as movie watching goes, I think there are four that I have not talked about. We watched Outsourced. I rented it because it reminded me of Office Space. A guy has to train his replacement (in India). It is funny at times and overall it isn't a bad movie. We also watched Eight Below. It is about a guy that leads expeditions in Antarctica. Due to a storm they have to evacuate and he has to leave his sled dogs. I will warn you that there are some sad moments in this film (especially if you are an animal lover). Kung Fu Panda was surprisingly good. We also watched College Road Trip. Umm...maybe a renter if there is nothing else to rent.
I did get New Moon Friday while we were near a bookstore. Instead of sleeping today, I read half of the book. So far I am really liking the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer. From the previews that I have seen for the movie Twilight, the actors that portray Edward and Bella do not resemble the Edward and Bella that play the parts in my mind. I like my mind's version better.
I was checking my email today and I received a sale email from Barnes & Noble. I clicked on the link to look at the fiction available. I was really surprised to see the new Alex Cross book, Cross Country, was released today. I know that the next book is always released around mid-November, but I guess it just snuck up on me this time. I have managed to add five books to my book list lately (Cross Country, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard). They should manage to keep me busy for a while in addition to a new house that will need to be unpacked, a new baby, our Thanksgiving guests, and Christmas travel.
We get the keys to our house tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. I am pretty excited. I had plans to pack up all of our stuff at the house we are renting this weekend. It didn't happen. So, when Gabe gets home from work I am going to attempt to start packing and cleaning. This way we will hopefully be able to get all of our stuff from this house into our house before the movers come with all of our possessions. Hmmm...I wonder when I will have internet at the new house.
These are really cute socks from Nicole, Andrew, and Maddie. They look like little shoes and on the bottom they say My 1st Sneakers. How cute!
Alex picture just because I think he is super cute.
Nicole...look for an email soon. Since you are the only one that responded to my thoughts on making Christmas presents for 2009 I will send you some links.
We had our orientation session to our house yesterday. I say yesterday because it is past midnight here. After our orientation Alex and I came back and Gabe had a meeting to attend. I started going through things on the desk in an attempt to organize them. I have things down to a small pile (I made a lot of progress). I also managed to catch up on writing thank you cards. I was just a little behind. Heck, I am behind on a lot. My Christmas cards are usually stamped and ready to go by now, but I haven't even ordered the picture yet. To be honest, we haven't even taken the picture yet.
I finished Twilight a couple of days ago, actually it was the day I posted that I found the book. I am looking forward to seeing the movie. It is going to be released November 21, but I am not sure when we will make it to the theater to watch the movie. We have to go to Tucson tomorrow to do some stuff for the house. We are going to stop by the bookstore so I can purchase New Moon, the next book in the series. I am a little behind in the series (there are four books), but as long as I stay ahead of the movies I will be okay. I am assuming that they will make another movie, but I really don't know.
I am looking forward to tomorrow, well today, being Friday. Things just seem more manageable on the weekends. We should probably start packing/cleaning this weekend. If everything goes like it should, we will have the keys to our house at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday. I am not 100% sure when our stuff will be here, but that is another story. I am going to attempt to get some sleep.
Oh, before I head off to enjoy my nightly slumber, I am considering making the majority of the Christmas presents for next year. instead of buying them. I know this is a little early, but anyone else want to join me?
Tomorrow is our orientation to our house. I know, it sounds a little strange, but someone will be walking through the house with us showing us how everything works. I figured it would all be self explanatory, but that is just how they do things around here.
Gabe and I watched Get Smart a few nights ago. I don't remember the TV show, but I really enjoyed the movie.
Unfortunately American Airlines does not fly to Australia. So, I don't think that I will be attending the conference there. I am not disappointed. The conference is two weeks and that is a more vacation time than we would like to use at this point. I did find a conference in Hawaii that looks promising (the timing sucks though) and a couple in California.
I am going to grab some food and sleep while Alex is still snoozing. Well, I should sleep but I found my copy of Twilight again (I temporarily lost it) and I have problems tearing myself away from the book.

Gabe is downstairs giving the dogs a bath. I am upstairs with Alex (he is sleeping) trying to figure out if I want to go to an optometric conference next weekend to pick up a few CE credits. Initially, Gabe and I both decided that it would be too soon after having Alex to go, but now we both think it would be fine. I don't know, I am still undecided. I could just wait and go next year to the AOA conference in D.C. There is also a conference in March of next year in Australia. Australia sounds like a lot of fun. Hmm...I wonder if I could use my frequent flier miles for a free plane ticket. That makes Australia sound even more appealing. After I finish here I am going to do some research on the matter.
Just a few more days until the house is ours. We get to start moving in on November 18th. That also happens to be my mom's birthday. Gabe, Alex, and I went to look at the house on Thursday. Things are all in place. They have a few finishing touches before it is turned over to us. Mainly, they need to do some touch-up painting.
We watched Journey to the Center of the Earth last night. It was really good. I was surprised at just how much I liked the movie. It kept me entertained and the time just flew by while watching the movie.
Alex working on the computer.
Gabe went back to work today. He still has a few vacation days left, but we are saving them for doctor's appointments. I am going to see how much of an entry I can get typed in before Alex wakes up.
Over the past few days Gabe and I have watched The Golden Compass. I say over the past few days because I think we watched the movie about 30 minutes at a time. It was pretty good. It kind of reminded me of the movie Stardust.
We gave Alex his first bath on Friday, October 31. Umm...he wasn't really a big fan. I have read in several places that babies enjoy a nice warm bath. They must mean the actual bath because we gave him a sponge bath and I am pretty sure he thought it was some sort of weird torture method.
The house inspection is Wednesday. I don't think that I am going to go. We pretty much decided that Gabe will go to the inspection and after it is over Gabe, Alex, and I will go back so I can see the house. We aren't sure how long the inspection itself is going to take, so it will just be easier if I stay home with Alex. The landscaping has been completed for a while, but I don't seem to have a picture. Hopefully we will be able to take a picture of the outside on Wednesday.
This is a website that was pointed out to me by Emily (I think others have mentioned it in previous years). Unfortunately, I did not get it up by Halloween, but it is still fun. You can carve your own pumpkin. I have been catching up on all of my emails very slowly.
Finally...the pictures.
Alex right after being born.
Alex and Gabe
Alex and Stephanie..okay this one is for Nicole...see, I was there ;)
Speaking of Nicole, one of the gifts that she, Andrew, and Maddie gave us is awesome. It is called an itzbeen and it allows you to keep track of how long it has been since a diaper change, a feeding, and sleep. It even has an extra button to use for whatever you want. It is wonderful. I would highly recommend it to anyone with a newborn.
Don't forget to vote!
Happy Birthday Shane!

Gabe and I have been very busy lately. Alex was born at 11:12 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28. He weighed in at 7 pounds and 12 ounces and measured 21.25 inches long. I think the temperature made it up to the 90's.
Before Alex came along we watched Underdog. I liked the little crime fighting dog.
Hmm...maybe I can snap a picture of the house soon. I will also attempt to post a picture of Alex.
