TV

Sunday I watched Desperate Housewives. I am not sure how I like the "let's jump ahead 5 years" idea.

I guess Cloris wasn't as annoying as normal last night on Dancing with the Stars, but I am still ready for her to go home. I agree with Nicole, Cloris isn't funny, she is just irritating!

Hmm...I guess I don't have a lot to write and I don't have any new pictures. I guess I will attempt to make progress on my to do list.

Happy Anniversary!

Ugly Betty is Back

Gabe and I watched Ugly Betty on Friday. We missed the premier on TV due to a timing issue. It was okay. I am glad to see Betty out on her own in the city. I do hope that they bring Geo and Henry back. I think they each add something to the show.

Gabe and I walked through our house on Saturday morning. It is a lot different to walk through it now that it has actual walls. They still need to finish placing mud on the drywall. At some point (hopefully soon), they will finish the outside of the house and paint the interior walls.

View of mountains from our bedroom window (This picture does not do the view justice...which is a good thing because it is one of the reasons we are not in a house right now.)

Saturday we watched the movie Unhitched. It is about a girl that is marrying the wrong guy for her and the attempt to get her to marry the right guy. I am neutral on this one. It wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible.

I have been working on another cross stitch. I am hoping to complete this on sometime this week. Like the last one, it is a Christmas present for one of my Grandmas.

Yesterday we purchased two Foo Dogs.

I was going to purchase them for Gabe, but he was with me so we decided that we would each buy one for each other. They reminded me of the Fu Dogs at Allerton.

Painting Soon...Maybe

I don't really have any fun pictures to post. We drove by our house yesterday and they have started the tape and the mud on the drywall. I would have taken a picture, but I didn't have my camera. It really wouldn't have mattered anyway since you can't see that much detail in the pictures. Gabe received an email earlier in the week and they *might* start painting the walls sometime next week. If I thought it would make things go any faster I would offer to help paint.
We watched Don Quixote on Saturday. It was in the form of a ballet. I really enjoyed it. They will be performing the Nutcracker Suite early in December. Hopefully we will be able to make it to one of the performances.
Gabe and I watched Open Water the other night. Basically a couple takes a vacation and goes SCUBA diving. Due to some wonderful counting skills, they end up being left in the shark infested waters. The ending was a huge letdown for me.
I started another cross stitch today. I have worked on it for a few hours and all I have to show for it is a purple blob. It will come together eventually.
Ugly Betty is on tonight! I am excited. We have also been watching Dancing with the Stars. I have been ready for Cloris Leachman to go home since Tuesday. I don't know, she just rubs me the wrong way.

Drywall

We have drywall! I have never been so excited over drywall in my life. They still need to apply the tape, mud, and sand it, but at least it looks like we have walls now. I am not sure if they have already completed the inspection so they can start finishing the drywall yet, but at least the drywall is up on the walls.

House0919.jpg

We still haven't heard about the completion date, but both Gabe and I are assuming the middle of November. I still haven't given up hope for the end of October/ November 2 though. Maybe we will stop by and talk to them in a week or two to check on the progress.

Grand Canyon

Friday morning Gabe and I headed to Phoenix. I had to take the jurisprudence exam for my license in Arizona. After the exam we had lunch at a Greek restaurant and headed to the Grand Canyon.

This is my only picture of Phoenix.

On the way we stopped off at Montezuma's Castle. The name is slightly misleading. Montezuma never lived there and it isn't a castle. The Sinagua Indians lived in the cliff dwelling.

There was some mix up with our hotel. They only had it reserved for one night, but we had a confirmed reservation for two nights. They were booked and unable to provide us with a room. So we headed back a day early...but back to our time at the canyon.

I really like this picture because it helps to put things in perspective. It really difficult to capture the vastness of the canyon.

We stayed at the Grand Canyon until it was dark we headed back to Tusayan (the town with our hotel) and watched the National Geographic IMAX movie. Then we headed back and went to bed.

The next morning, we went back to the Grand Canyon and went along the Desert View Trail.

On the way home we stopped off at Sedona and saw the Red Rocks.

We also stopped off at IKEA. We don't get to go as often as we used to since it is no longer a few miles down the road. We didn't get to have our usual breakfast, but we did manage to have dinner.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Robyn and Adam on the birth of their baby boy (9/7/08)!

Pre-Drywall Inspection

I am going to keep this entry short...I think. I have a lot to get done today. Yesterday we went to the pre-drywall construction inspection on our house. There were a few minor things here and there, but overall it looked great. They have another city inspection and then they can start blowing in the insulation and then hang the drywall. Another city inspection follows and then they will tape, mud, sand, mud, and sand. That will probably run to the beginning of October. After that they will do the floors, painting, appliances, landscaping, and pouring our driveway (I am not sure about the order). I am still hoping for a completion date at the end of October, but it looks like mid-November will be more realistic. If they could get it to us by the original estimated completion date of November 2, that would be great (but not as great as the end of October). Anyway, they will give us an up to date completion date once the drywall is done and I look for that to be somewhere around the end of September/beginning of October. I don't really have any pictures, other than of the electrical wiring. So maybe next time.
We are leaving tomorrow so I can take the jurisprudence exam for Arizona. I was going to take it in August, but I managed to catch a cold for 2 weeks. Taking it in either August or September will result in a license at the same time, so it didn't hold me back for that portion of the licensing procedure. The exam is held in Phoenix, so we are heading to the Grand Canyon for the weekend. Hopefully I will have some pictures to post when I return. I have to study.

Happy Birthday!

Titan II

Yesterday morning Gabe and I went to the Titan Missile Museum. It is something that we both wanted to see, but after receiving a coupon in the mail for free admission we made our reservations and finally went. I went to space camp in junior high and it sort of reminded me of some of my experiences there. Our tour was early in the morning, so the temperatures weren't too high during the outside portion of the tour. It would be a fun place to take visitors (if they are remotely interested).

After the museum we went to the fair grounds to the gun show. They had fairly inexpensive MRE's, but I had already purchased some online for a gift. Yes, someone I know wants MRE's. Don't worry, they don't read my blog.
Next we headed to the mall and a store. We had dinner at Famous Dave's...I love their Texas Beef Brisket. Beth, one of my friends from the Chicagoland area, turned me on to this place.

Apple Orchard

We drove by our house on Saturday and they have made a lot of progress. Hopefully we will get to do the pre-drywall walk through in a couple of weeks or even sooner.

House0831.jpg

We ended up going to the Apple Orchard on Sunday. It was a lot of fun. We picked apples, peaches, and some delicious pears. We decided even though it was fun, it wasn't something that we would do frequently...until we tried the pears. I think we might go back and pick some more. Before picking fruit we had lunch...apple smoked hamburgers. After picking we walked through the shop and had a piece of apple pie. The weather wasn't too bad. It "rained" on us while we were eating, but it really wasn't much more than a sprinkle, so we continued to eat outside on the picnic table. I tried some of the apple butter we purchased with toast today and it was yummy.

Yesterday we went shopping. We also wore our Fighting Illini t-shirts and received free chicken strips from Chick-Fil-A. They were running a promotion for free strips if you were wearing something with a football team on it. Even after purchasing two drinks and fries, we had lunch for less than $5. We went to two different malls and came back home and relaxed. We watched Across the Universe. It was okay. Maybe I would have liked it more if I was more of a Beetles fan.

Happy Birthday!
