Happy Birthday Julie!
My parents came up on Saturday and stayed until Monday morning. We played a lot of Wii. Recently, Gabe and I purchased Mario Kart. It is a lot of fun. I am a much better driver in real life. We also watched the movie Walk the Line. My dad is a big Johnny Cash fan.
Last night Gabe and I watched Lars and the Real Girl. The DVD case said it was funny. I think I laughed twice. It was actually just sad. It is about a guy that uses a plastic life size doll to relay his troubles in life. It wasn't at all what I expected.
Tonight Gabe and I went to the movies and watched What Happens in Vegas. It was a little cheesy, but still entertaining. Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz marry while drunk in Vegas. They spend the movie attempting to work on their marriage. I don't want to give any more details in case some of you decide to watch the movie.
I finally finished cleaning off the desk. Now I must tackle the garage and the back yard. I also contacted a shelter about picking up a few items that we no longer need. I am waiting on a phone call to arrange a pickup time. Hopefully they will be able to pick things up very soon.
Happy Memorial Day!
Last night Gabe and I watched Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The movie had great potential, but I must say I was VERY disappointed by the ending. I am not going to say much more than that (I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone). Oh well, I will always have the first three movies.
I finished cleaning off the book shelves. Now I just have the desk to tackle as well as the garage and the back yard. I keep avoiding the garage, but I do think that its time is coming very soon.
Congratulations to Brandi and Doug on the birth of their baby boy!
My foot is feeling much better. It is still swollen and bruised, but it doesn't hurt as much as the past few days. I could actually stand for the sheet to touch my foot when I slept last night. That was the first night I didn't have to sleep with my foot outside of the covers. Work wasn't too bad and not nearly as exhausting for my foot as Saturday or last Wednesday.
Last night we watched The Invisible. It is about a boy that is left for dead. He discovers that the only person that can help him out of his living/near death existence is the person that tried to kill him. If you are in a mood for a supernatural movie, it is worth a viewing.
I was not able to find anyone to work for me on Saturday. So, I hobbled around while seeing patients. My foot was throbbing by the end of my work day. Gabe's parents came up. I worked on cleaning off the desk (I didn't make much progress). We watched Enchanted. It wasn't entirely what I expected. I wouldn't run out to rent it.
Sunday we headed to Ikea for breakfast and then came back home. Gabe and I watched August Rush. It is about a boy that is in search of his family. He can "hear them" through music.
I did find someone to work for me today. I plan on working tomorrow and Wednesday, so I have just been taking it easy and keeping my foot elevated. It is still bruised and I still have issues with the sheet touching it at night. Hopefully my next few days at work won't be too busy...I need my foot to survive.
Last night Gabe started scraping mortar. He is doing a really great job. I think he felt sorry for me so he took over the scraping process. I have slowly been working on the final two rooms. I am pretty much down to the den (minus the floor in another room). Then there is the garage and the back yard.
I have made an attempt to reduce my amount of walking. So, I mended some clothing and I have made menus for June and July. I think that I am going to work on August next so we don't have to worry about what we are having for dinner during all of the moving confusion. Warm weather here I come. Just on a side note I want to go to Hawaii again. I have a couple of friends that are flying there right now. Maybe Gabe and I can go in the beginning of next year. Who knows? I want to take an Alaskan cruise too and a European cruise. We definitely won't be doing all of the trips anytime soon.
I am the proud owner of a broken toe. Yesterday morning I avoided stepping on my dog, but in the process I stubbed my toe on the bed. Usually after a "stubbing incident" my toe quits hurting after about 5 or 10 minutes, but it didn't stop this time. I went to work and hobbled around while seeing patients. Gabe and I went to an urgent care center around 9:00 p.m. last night. My toe was still throbbing, swollen, and I couldn't stand for anything to touch it. The x-ray machine was broken, so they told us we could either go to the hospital or come back at 2:00 when they would be able to take an x-ray. Considering I could just go to my doctor this morning for a $20 co-pay instead of the $100 emergency fee, I opted to wait until this morning. Luckily, the location of the break doesn't require a cast. So, I get to tape two toes together, take Tylenol (I don't plan on taking Tylenol), elevate my foot (I slept with my foot elevated last night and it makes a HUGE difference), use ice, and stay off it (yeah right). Anyone want to work for me on Saturday? You might be wondering why I don't plan on taking Tylenol for the pain. I don't want to overdo anything and mask pain. I know to stop when my foot hurts and I just prefer it to be that way. So, that is the excitement in our lives right now.
We watched P.S. I Love You the past two nights. The movie varied from the book quite a bit. In fact, I think it varied in some VERY crucial points to the book. So, I quite watching the movie midway through. I finished it last night. I was disappointed. My recommendation...just read the book.
I watched Sydney White this morning. It is a modern day take of Snow White. It is pretty cute if you are looking for something that requires absolutely no thought.
I am taking a very short break from scraping mortar to write this entry. I cannot stress the importance of wiping down the mortar after application enough. If the previous home owners would have actually done this, I might not be spending hours scraping mortar off of white tiles.
Last night I finished the two bedrooms that needed attention. Now we are down to the two rooms that need the most help, the garage, and the back yard. I started working on the floor in one of the rooms. The individuals that lived there before us didn't see a need to clean the mortar after applying it to the ceramic tile floors. Rather than replace the entire floor, I decided just to "clean up" the floor that we already have. So, that means scraping off the mortar. I worked on it a little while last night while Gabe worked on the closet doors. We decided to watch a movie before either of us were finished. We ended up watching 27 Dresses. It was not as good as I expected. The idea itself was cute, but the movie was too cheesy for me. I have a feeling that tonight holds even more mortar scraping in my future.
We are back from our excursion and working on the house again. I am taking a short break from going through socks and shoes to find donations. I have to finish putting some things away and then clean the last two bedrooms. The only bad thing about my cleaning plan is that now all of the rooms that I cleaned initially need to be cleaned again. I just haven't had time lately to clean the entire house once a week. Oh well. It will get done when I get to it. If I can just finish putting things away and clean the two rooms I will only have two rooms left to tackle. The last two are going to be the biggest challenge, so I think that I will wrangle Gabe in the process. He is currently putting up a couple of closet doors. Back to cleaning for me. Once we are finished I am going to see if I can talk him into watching 27 Dresses with me.
Happy Mother's Day!
It has been raining quite a bit this morning. The dogs didn't even want to go out. Hopefully it will let up soon.
I made it through my orals class. I felt like I was a student again. I brought my hi-lighters, pen, and pencil. Some of the individuals next to me only brought pens, so I let them borrow my hi-lighters...they said that I was their new favorite person :)
I worked yesterday. Afterwards Gabe and I went to pick up my car from the oil change (they kept my car overnight and changed a spring in the rear of the car). We went to pick it up and it took 40 minutes for them to actually get my car out to us. Once we started driving whenever Gabe would let his foot off of the gas, the back of the car made a really funny noise. It was almost like a flat tire, but my tires weren't flat. So, we headed back to the dealer and service manager came out and drove the car. His response to the noise was "that doesn't sound good". Gee thanks! I could have told him that! I also told him that my car did not make this noise when it was dropped off. He took it back in the service area to take a look. It turns out that the person that put the tire back on my car didn't bother to tighten the lug nuts. Who needs tightened lug nuts anyway? I guess they are only necessary if you don't want your tire to fly off while traveling 65 mph across a highway with 8 lanes. So they fixed it and apologized profusely. Finally, about 3 hours after the start of our journey we had my car back (this was supposed to take 20 minutes). But hey, at least they corrected the problem. Aaron was coming over to our house to grill at 5:00. That didn't happen. We didn't get back with the car until it was almost 7:00 p.m. So, he came over later and then we grilled hamburgers. They were delicious. Afterwards, we watched Sweeney Todd. It was a lot darker than the musical. Well, we are going to head out for the day...I think.
I have managed to clean the laundry room and the kitchen. The kitchen was quite the little project. Saturday I worked and then Gabe and I relaxed for a while. We also finished watching Bridge to Terabithia. We recorded it when had the free Starz preview. I didn't like it all, but I don't really think that I am the target audience.
Yesterday we had plans to complete a lot of house projects, but they were all cut short. We ended up watching my nephew pitch in a regional tournament. He won his game 15-1. Before we left for the game we managed to do a couple of things around the house. I planted some more flowers in the front of our house and Gabe stained some closet doors. We made it back from the game around 9:00 p.m. He paid some bills while I looked up ideas to spruce up our patio. Now I am back at work.
Things this week are going to be crazy. I will not get my normal two days off. Instead, I am going to be taking the Illinois Orals class from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. At least I get Sunday off, but it doesn't leave a lot of time for home improvement projects. Maybe I will be able to do things for a couple of hours at a time in the evenings. The only problem is that in addition to cleaning the house, there are 38 things on my "to do" list. Yikes!!! Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will complete it all.
Only 7 more rooms to go (three bedrooms, the kitchen, the laundry room, the den, and the large room without a purpose). In addition to the rooms, the garage needs to be cleaned out as well as the front and back yard, plus the windows and floors. I think I am going to buy some flowers to plant in a planter at the front of the house. I meant to do it today, but the time just seemed to get away from me. In addition to the flowers, I am going to attempt to tackle the laundry room and the kitchen tomorrow. The rooms that are left just have a lot of stuff that I need to go through. Maybe I will be finished with the house by the end of May. The garage may go over into June.
Gabe and I watched the episode of Scrubs. I can't believe that next week is the finale. Now we are watching Ugly Betty. After that who knows. I might even do the laundry room tonight. I know I certainly need to do some laundry.
Three rooms of the house have been completely cleaned and organized (minus windows). I am going to clean the windows after the rest of the house is clean. Only 11 more rooms to go, plus hallway closets, the garage, and the front and back yards. I was feeling like I was making major progress, but now after writing the previous sentences, I have a lot left to do. What am I doing writing a blog entry? I need to be cleaning!
We watched American Idol last night. I don't think that Brooke should have been sent home this week. She should have had one or two more weeks on the show. I really think that it should have been Jason Castro and he wasn't even in the bottom two. I used to be a fan of Jason's, but he hasn't "done it" for me these past few weeks. On the other hand, David Cook keeps growing on me. I think it might just come down to the two Davids.
Well, my floor should be dry, so I am going to get back to working. I need to put a rug down and another bathroom is calling.
