Apparently they are going to release the Star Wars stamps on May 25. They just unveiled them today. Don't forget to vote for your favorite stamp. The winning stamp will be featured on its own sheet.
Nicole has a post on her blog about the new look of a few select USPS mailboxes. She was hoping that there would be one in the Chicago area. I found one today while we were picking up our Shamrock Shuffle packets at Navy Pier. It is located on the corner near Capi's Italian Kitchen. Here is the link to the official USPS website. Apparently they are going to release stamp on March 28 to honor the 30th anniversary of Lucasfilm. P.S. R2-D2 does make a cute mailbox.
This past week has been very busy. I am attempting to prepare for the clinical skills portion of boards while working a ton. When I arrive home I basically fall asleep on the couch. I actually slept on the couch last night (apparently Gabe couldn't wake me up after several repeated attempts). Gabe was in Utah the beginning of the week. The dogs and I were home alone. He claims that he went on the trip for work reasons, but I think that it was so he could avoid more eye exams. He returned on Wednesday and had an eye exam on Thursday. He is my guinea pig for boards and has been receiving an average of two eye exams per week. In fact, he had one today and he is going to get one tomorrow. He has already had a lifetime's worth of eye exams in just the past four years. So, that pretty much sums up last week...work, sleep, work, give Gabe an eye exam, repeat.
Apparently around 10 deaths, due to liver failure, have been linked to several brands of "wet pet food". You can check to see if the food you feed Fido is listed. Luckily, our dogs only eat dry food.
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! I hope that you are all wearing green.
Apparently copy machines are smarter than I thought. I never realized that copy machines store a permanent image of documents on their hard drives...eek!
Well, my NCAA brackets are doing better than last year. Instead of my "optometry school theory", this year I went with the "if I know someone that went there or I have visited the school theory". I once had a patient that went to Butler, so that served me well. I have a friend that lives in North Carolina and friends from Wisconsin. I picked both Duke and Notre Dame, so that hurt. I will see how the games go tonight...Go Illini! I actually picked Florida to win it all (Gabe lived there for a while). I picked Indiana for two reasons, I have visited and there is an optometry school...hey you can't expect me to give up the optometry school theory completely. I really need to pick up the den...it looks like a paper recycling plant.
This past weekend I worked on Saturday. I hope that I will not have to work every Saturday. I am not the biggest fan of working 6 days a week (especially when I work until 6:00 or 7:00 p.m. on most days). Needless to say I am pretty tired and boards are currently being neglected. Gabe and I went to the outlet mall in Gurnee on Sunday. That was pretty much our entertainment for the weekend. He bought a new wallet and I got a shirt. We ate at Max & Erma's. I had never been before and we did something that we usually do not do...we ordered dessert. We each had the all you can eat sundae bar. I am pretty sure that they make it all you can eat because no one can eat more than just one sundae after lunch/dinner. Other than our Sunday/sundae activity I have worked and studied. Currently I am primarily studying for my rotation, but I am hopeful that it will come in handy for boards. I am with the retina specialist tomorrow, so I have been brushing up on my retina material. I think that I am going to look at some FANGS, read up on macular degeneration, hypertension, diabetes, and histoplasmosis. Then, I am going to bed. The weather was really nice today, so Gabe grilled hamburgers for dinner. I love grilled hamburgers. O.K., so that was a really random thought, but I am tired.
This past weekend we finished watching the fourth season of Scrubs. It sucks that we have to wait until May to watch the fifth season. I have the first season of Grey's Anatomy. I think that I might watch it...or here is a better idea I should study for boards. Well, I just decided that I am going to study for boards, no Grey's Anatomy until they are finished (maybe). Anyway, I have seen a lot of cool things at my current location. I have seen a ton of ocular injections, chalazion removal, and a blepharoplasty. Tomorrow I get to watch cataract surgery. I will probably watch the Gilmore Girls tonight. I must say I am a little disappointed that Lorelai and Christopher split up. If she gets back together with Luke and I am going to quit watching the show.
Happy Birthday Maren!
